Many small businesses think that once a website is built they can take their foot off the gas and let the business run on cruise control. While that may have been the case in the early years of website development, it is not longer true. Traditional websites are just one part of a successful marketing plan. Smart business owners are using multiple channels both online and off to successfully reach and engage their audience base.
Today business owners are using lead generation tools like optimized mobile websites, e-newsletters, QR codes, and social media to effectively target and engage their existing and potential clients. Micro sites are another way small businesses are increasing their return on investment. These micro sites allow businesses to offer specific products and services that are easily tractable. And in social media, Facebook alone has over 800 million users. Business owners just need to look at how technology has changed their own lifestyle habits.

Mobile searchers are motivated searchers
Billy Grant Restaurant Group
When celebrity chef Billy Grant first approached us to build his website he had zero emails. Today he has well over 10,000. That’s lead generation! We designed his award winning e-newsletter SUGO . Chef Grant used the power of email to establish an ongoing dialogue with his customer base.
The SUGO e-newsletter was never intended to sell but rather to inform his clientele. He published stories, photographs, some of his and customers favorite recipes, but giving back to the community is what makes this chef special. As co-chairperson of Share Our Strength in the Hartford area Billy has tireless worked to end childhood hunger. SUGO has not only helped fill the seats at his three restaurants, but has brought social awareness to the community.
Aiello Home Services
This plumbing and HVAC company hired FotoFiction to create lead generation. Recently, we created two micro websites and an extension of a radio campaign featuring – TUX the Penguin as its spokesperson. The campaign titled, Where’s Tux “http://www.whereisthepenguin.com” is a promotional contest where each day the penguin shows up at different locations throughout the region. To play a customer just needs to enter an email along to with the location of the penguin seen in the photo with the possibility being selected randomly to win a $25 gift card at Target.
This campaign has another benefit for Aiello. Each day that Tux the Penguin appears there is also a one day special offer on goods and services. Each day the offer changes. A different phone number is placed on the website so they can now track the calls that come in that are directly attributed to the TUX the Penguin campaign. This micro website may not be up on the Internet long but it will bring in targeted emails that are added to their growing email marketing list.
What’s Wrong With My Website
In order to get the best return on your website investment it needs to not only look great it needs to function without error. Great design and ease of use are critical to being successful, and are very often what visitors use to decide whether they will take the next important critical step and contact your business directly. Poorly constructed websites are often penalized by the search engines and may not be included at all in the search returns for your companies given products and services. If your site cannot be found then you are greatly limiting the potential the web can bring to help grow and promote your business brand.
